An alleged email circulating around Facebook has people in fear the U.S. Government is buying up all the ammo and ordering other companies to ‘curtail sales’ to the American populous. However, rumors circulating in 2010 about George Soros, with known affiliated links to the Obama WH, owning several gun manufacturing companies were debunked by several entities, including the NRA-ILA who stated in July 2012, those rumors were “completely false and baseless”.
So how truthful is the most recent rumor? Let’s start with the letter [as written without editing]:[notify textbox-grey][quote-symbol symbol1]You may not know this but George Soros owns most of the ammunition Manufacturing companies and many arms manufacturers as well. He’s selling ONLY to the government right now, per WH & DHS orders. My son works for ATK, who owns just about all the rest of the ammunition companies that Soros doesn’t own. He tells me that ATK has been ordered by the federal Government to curtail sales of ammunition, primers and powder to the Retail market. What you see currently on the shelves is old stock and what’s left in the warehouses since the CT shootings and new stock will NOT be appearing anytime soon. ATK and Soros’ companies have more than Enough government contracts to keep them going for years to come. Like Soros’ companies, ATK is a huge defense contractor and they’ve been told To sell ONLY to the DOD, TSA, FBI, DHS and local/federal law enforcement Agencies. This is VERY scary and VERY ominous for what’s coming down the Pike in the future.
My son has seen the proposed pricing schedule for Federal, CCI, Hornady, Remington, Winchester and several other ammunition manufacturer’s lines of Ammunition, components, reloading equipment (ATK owns Outers, RCBS, Hoppe And a host of others) and he’s flabbergasted! As an example, when the Sales of .22 LR bulk ammo resumes, the pricing will be over $50.00 for a 535-round Value Pak! That’s nearly a dime-a-shot!! They’re also going to Raise the prices by 300 – 400% on dies, presses, powder measures and the Like. He’s in management there at ATK in Salt Lake City and they’re NOT Happy with it at all! They firmly believe this will basically shut-down The civilian market while leaving the government as the only purchaser of Their products. He saw the government pricing for the center fire Ammunition they’ve been stockpiling and their prices have actually dropped From a year ago so the feds are buying this stuff REAL cheap while we Can’t even get our hands on it at all!
Something I’ve always said since Obummer came onto the scene in 2008 is That, even if they can’t actually ban the weapons themselves, the Government will make it nearly impossible for us civilians to feed them With ammo, reloading components and the like. The WH doesn’t HAVE to Actually ban the guns, as Biden said in one of his many faux pas,
Foot-in-the-mouth, Freudian slip speeches he’s famous for making. ” All We have to do is to make it too expensive to use them and the public will Eventually give them back to us if we offer an attractive price for these Weapons”. What’s an “attractive price” – a $10.00 Wal-Mart gift card for a $3,000.00 custom hunting rifle? Those were his EXACT words in one of the Speeches he gave to the freshman congressmen last week! Remember, Biden Was one of the architects of the Clinton gun ban of years ago. I think he’s as dangerous to the Second Amendment as Obozo is, maybe more so,
Because he’s so stupid and doesn’t know the muzzle of a gun from the Butt…
Feel free to pass this on so gun owners will be aware of what we’re up Against. I doubt the NRA can do anything about it, IMHO. La Pierre can Get on all the talk shows he’s invited to and cry the blues about the Assault weapons laws that are forthcoming from the WH but the real crux of the matter will be whether or not we’ll ever be able to purchase ammunition (at all) or, if we can, what we’ll be paying for it. As an aside, here, I deal a LOT with Midsouth Shooters Supply for my reloading components. Two weeks ago I ordered 500 cases each of .45 Casull, .44 Magnum, .357 Magnum and 9mm Parabellum. I was told everything I had ordered was out-of-stock and no in-stock delivery date was being forecast. They wouldn’t even accept a backorder for this stuff! Thing the government isn’t manipulating it? Think again, my friend…
“Signing off the DHS FLETC home page we noticed a small banner at the bottom right stating firearms training requires about 20 million rounds annually. So give-or-take five million or so. No wonder they need so many deliveries.“
Headlines such as FEMA graduating its “first” class from the Center for Domestic Preparedness; a report by NBC stating there is a memo revealing a legal case for drone strikes on Americans; immediately following the second presidential victory by Obama, the U.S. backs new U.N. arms treaty talks; a new bill, H.R.748, introduced by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) stating that “all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 25 [will be required]to perform national service”; a video posted on YouTube showing that immigration check-points are popping up across the U.S. not just at our borders; an increasing list of gun manufacturers and retailers refusing to sell to states and law enforcement of states that are backing any sort of gun control laws; etc., makes it easy for the public to voice their concerns.
But is it true that ATK has been ordered to slow down, or halt, their ammunition sales to citizens?
According to nwfDailyNews.com, gun shop owners can’t keep up with demand on ammo due to the stockpiling of ammunition following the re-election of Obama and the Sandy Hook school shootings.
A little research does produce, however, a link to ATK and Utah, as mentioned in the letter.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported in June 2011: ATK poised to fire up new Utah plant, begin hiring. ATK (Alliance Techsystems, Inc.) specializes in Aerospace, Defense, and Sporting. The SLT writes, that “[a]lthough ATK is based in Minnesota, two of the company’s three operating groups call Utah home. ATK Aerospace Systems, headquartered in Magna with operations in Promontory, produces solid-fuelrocket propulsion systems and is also a supplier of military and commercial aircraft structures. ATK Armament Systems, which is based in Clearfield and employs several dozen Utahns, is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of military ammunition. Almost all its operations, though, are out of state.” [emphasis added]
With that said, the ATK Sporting page states: “The Ammunition division supplies small-caliber ammunition to sport-shooting enthusiasts, devoted hunters, federal and local law enforcement agencies, and the military. Our ammunition brands include Federal Premium, Alliant Powder, RCBS, CCI, Fusion, Speer Ammo, Speer Bullets, Estate Cartridge and Blazer.”[notify info]A box of 20, Federal Premium .223 ammo is currently running $27.99 at Cabela’s. Whether this is old stock or Cabela’s is capable of ordering more, newly manufactured rounds, is unknown at the time of this writing. However, the listed sales page also states: “Due to unusually high demand, we may not be able to accept backorders for this product.”[/notify]
There is enough information, some founded some not, to piece together any puzzle with regard to the current status of ammunition and public sales.

Jan 30 (Reuters) – Walmart has started to limit sales of ammunition to three boxes per customer per day due to limited supplies, a spokeswoman said on Wednesday.
Sales of guns and ammunition have risen across the United States since the Dec. 14 shooting at a Newtown, Connecticut elementary school.
Walmart U.S., is the largest unit of Wal-Mart Stores Inc the world’s largest retailer and the largest U.S. gun seller. The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer had said that it works to strike the right balance between serving hunters and sportsmen and ensuring that it sells firearms responsibly.
“In order to take care of as many customers as possible, starting Thursday, Jan. 24, all ammunition sales were limited to three boxes per customer, per day as supply is limited at this time,” spokeswoman Ashley Hardie told Reuters on Wednesday.
Walmart was a charter member of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s coalition against illegal guns and adopted a 10-point code established by the Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership that goes beyond what the law requires.
Data released on Monday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System showed that nine of the top 10 days for firearms checks from Nov. 30, 1998, to Jan. 27, 2013, including Dec. 14, 2012, occurred since Adam Lanza killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School and then shot and killed himself. Lanza also killed his mother before the school massacre.
Walmart’s policy change was reported earlier by The City Wire, an Arkansas news outlet.
